Here is a recent pool table service job we performed for our client in Orange, CA. These pool table cushions were replaced only six years ago. Due to lack of experience, the previous pool table installer used the incorrect type of adhesive. Our client will be having to replace the cushion rubber much, much sooner than he should. Not to mention the fact that the previous pool table mechanic used the cheapest cushion rubber she could find. Four out of the six pool table cushions were hard as rocks and years earlier had become detached from the rail when the adhesive she used failed to bond properly.

When you hire the pool table experts to repair your pool table, we’ll take our time and do it the right way. That means that when it comes to re-cushioning pool table rails, we don’t replace them at your home. We’ll pick them up, bring them to our pool table service center and return them to your home about a week and a half later. We like to allow several days of drying time to allow the proper cushion rubber adhesion.

Here is a recent slate pool table we delivered and installed to our client in Mission Viejo, CA. This solid maple pool table is made completely in America by Connelly Billiards Mfg. Our client chose this small slate pool table because of the size of his gameroom. Had he chosen to buy the more traditional pool table size known as a 4×8 foot, it would have made a lot of the side shots difficult to cue up with a standard 58 inch cuestick. Most folks don’t realize that many of our custom billiard tables are available in different sizes. This allows the homeowner to fit one of our slate pool tables into just about any room in the home. This particular custom pool table is called the “San Carlos” and is available in a multitude of wood stains to compliment most home decor. Stop by our Orange County pool table showroom today to see all of our American made pool tables.

Some of you may be wondering what gives a billiard ball it’s bounce. We’ll take a closer look at the inner workings of a pool/billiard table rail. All of the rails you see here are different clients’ rails that we have here in my billiard repair shop. A typical cushion rubber has a life of about 25-30 years, as is the case with these rails that I’ve been working on here. The first thing a pool/billiard table owner might start to notice about his/her table is a slow rebound when a ball bounces off of a particular rail. This is the point at which you will need a re-cushion job. So, once you’ve decided to shell out the hundreds of dollars to “rejuvenate” your pool/billiard table, you’ll hopefully get a visit from me to your home which is where the job starts.

We’ll disassemble your rail sections from the slatebed, wrap them up and bring them to our workshop. The first step is to strip the felt from the rails, then we gently pry the rotten rubber from where it was glued. The second step is to block sand the cushion seat and completely remove any traces of old adhesive.
Next, we’ll cement the new cushion rubber to the rail and set the nose of the cushion to the proper height. This step is very important to produce the optimum ball rebound. After we’ve allowed the contact cement to dry for a few days, we’ll use a straight edge razor knife to trim the excess rubber while also keeping the proper angles in mind. The next step is to glue on new cushion facings, allowing them to dry a day or so. Once dry, we’ll trim the eight corners and four side pocket facings to the exact shape of the cushion.

This family of four from Orange, CA. has been wanting a slate pool table for a couple of years. But now that the kids are entering their teenage years, Mom and Dad thought it was the perfect time to buy one. Keeping an eye on their budget while still seeking quality were two important goals that we were able to achieve harmoniously. The family chose our most popular import pool table by the C.L. Bailey Co. The “Dutchess” offers style and quality all wrapped up in one. This is one of our most popular stains called warm chestnut. We also offer C.L. Bailey pool tables in cinnamon, traditional mahogany and classic oak. As with all of our import pool tables, the Dutchess features solid wood construction throughout and one inch, backed slate.

Please visit our Orange County pool table showroom to see our full line of Fischer and C.L. Bailey models. We also carry American made pool tables from Connelly Billiard Mfg.

This was a rewarding pool table move job that my assistant and I recently did for a famous motion picture director named John Guillermin. John explained to me the origin of this massive nine foot slate pool table. He told me that a Danish craftsman had built this beautiful billiard table for him in the late 1960′s. Apparently the table was manufactured by Delmo Billiard Mfg. of Los Angeles, CA. I’ve serviced a lot of Delmo pool tables in my career as billiard mechanic, so I know these tables were built as solid as a tank. The fact that this table is nearly 50 years old and that the mitred corners of the cabinet are still tight tells me that the Dane who crafted this and all of the pool tables Delmo cranked out of their LA factory should be considered family heirlooms.

About seven years ago John hired us to move his pool table to a friends house up in the mountains of Ojai, CA. for safekeeping. There it sat in a garage, covered and lonely for nearly seven years. John had resettled into a new home and was anxious to have his baby back with him again. He had an ample size billiard room built just so he could relive his pool playing days. John told me that he and his good friend Fred Astaire used to play pool on this table late into the night. John was very glad to be finally reunited with his Delmo pool table.

This was pool table move job that could have turned into an ugly situation. The clients who hired us found this eight foot Imperial International pool table on Craigslist. The table was purchased new by the sellers about seven years ago. When we arrived at the pickup location in Rancho Santa Margarita, CA to get started on disassembling the pool table. I noticed that the three of the six rails had cushion rubber that had prematurely deteriorated. The sellers of the table hadn’t really been playing too much pool in last couple of years and didn’t realize it. Good quality cushion rubber has a normal life expectancy of 20-25 years, this pool table was only seven years old. This was an unexpected surprise for the new owners of the pool table, luckily the two parties worked everything out amicably.

So we proceeded to dismantle the pool table and move it to it’s new home in Cypress, CA. We’ll be bringing the set of rails to our shop to be re-cushioned. Luckily the previous billiard mechanic had left enough extra rail cloth underneath the rails, so it looks like we’ll be able to re-staple the cloth after we install the new cushion rubbers. If you’re looking around for used pool tables please be sure and test out the bounce of each rail. Normally a ball should make three to four cushion to cushion contacts on the short side, before it comes to rest. A ball leaving the rail should make no sound. If you hear a “thud” after contact, that cushion is probably “dead”.

Now this doesn’t mean that the pool table is a bad pool table, just that the manufacturer tried to reduce their production costs by using lower quality cushion rubber. I’ve seen many well built pool tables and even well known manufacturers who have fallen prey to cheaply made cushion rubber.

Here is a recent pool table delivery we made to our client in Long Beach, CA. He purchased this eight foot C.L. Bailey Addison pool table from our website. He knew he wanted a slate pool table that was affordable, the Addison features a three piece one inch slatebed. Our client, a native of the Philippines was no stranger to a billiard table. He had played many a game in his hometown. Now that he has established himself here in Southern California he has decided to pick up his father’s old handmade cue and start playing again.

He decided to convert his garage into a “Man Cave” when his wife said, “no way am I gonna have a pool table in my home”. The Addison comes standard with 21 oz. woolen billiard cloth and a deluxe accessory kit, delivery and setup are also complimentary. But my client decided that he wanted to take his pool game to the next level and opted to upgrade to our pro style worsted wool billiard cloth and a set of Aramith premium billiard balls. The only thing left to do, is rack ‘em and crack ‘em!
