If you’ve had your pool table for over a few years, you may want to take a look at the condition of the felt. With normal use your pool table felt should last anywhere from four to seven years. This time frame could be less if the pool table has been in direct natural light. The ultraviolet rays of the sun dramatically alter the dye in most woolen billiard cloths. Additionally, the sun’s rays damage the felt by drying it out which makes it more likely to rip or tear when a miscue occurs. But, on the other hand, I’ve had clients whom have never had their felt changed in over 25 years, chiefly due to the fact that their pool table is seldomly used and/or they keep it covered from the sun’s harmful rays.
