How NOT to Move Your Pool Table: Part 5

Broken Leg When Moving Pool Table

Maybe it was a family member or friend that told you that you can just slide your pool table over to move it. Or, maybe, you had a bright idea to tip your pool table on its side to move it out to the garage. Your cousin or friend or dad did it that way and everything was fine. You may think that the above won’t happen to you.

This is not the first time we’ve seen this type of damage. No really. See here, here, here, here, and here for some perfect examples. I promise this will not be the last one, either. When we received the phone call from this clubhouse in Brea, California about the repair of a broken leg, it was apparent what had happened without even looking at the pool table.

We raised the pool table up with a jack to access the broken leg. Luckily, this is a well-built C.L. Bailey pool table and we were able to replace the bent leg mount. Since CLB pool tables have metal-to-metal connections, the bolts didn’t strip out or crack the wood. This saved us from having to rebuild the cabinet corner completely. This is something we have had to do in the past.

We also had to repair the blind apron along the side of one of the rails that had detached. These are decorative pieces, attached with small screws or sometimes nails, keeping the edges of the slate from view. They are not meant to be used as handles to carry an 850-pound pool table.

We cannot reiterate enough the fact of hiring a professional to move your pool table. Improper moving techniques can end up costing more than standard moving fees. Find out more about billiard moving on our Service Pages.
